1.2 Composition of Retrieval Codes

In Chapters 2 and 4, we will list all retrieval codes of NIAQ and NIAA according to the Table order in their respective publications. In Chapters 3 and 5, the same retrieval codes are listed alphabetically.

We hope you may easily find the retrieval codes for the data you need in Chapters 2-5. However, it might be helpful if you are familiar with how we construct these retrieval codes. Generally speaking, we follow the following principles:

(1) We use well-known English abbreviations for the major concepts in the National Income Accounts. For example:
GNP -- Gross National Product
C -- Consumption
IFIX -- Gross Fixed Capital Formation
INVCH -- Inventory Changes
EX -- Exports
M -- Imports
GDP -- Gross Domestic Product

(2) Following the "major concepts", we often append with some "modifiers" for further division. For example:

CP -- Private Consumption
CG -- Government Consumption

Private Consumption (CP) can be subdivided as:

CPFOOD -- Food
CPBEV -- Beverages
:
:

Government Consumption (CG) can also be subdivided:

CGGENF -- General Public Services
CGDEF -- Defence Affairs & Services
:
:

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) can be divided by industry:

GDPFOOD -- Food
GDPBEV -- Beverages
:
:

(3) Beginning letter "P" stands for Implicit Price Deflator. For example:

PGNP -- Implicit Price Deflator - Gross National Product
PCP -- Implicit Price Deflator - Private Consumption Expenditure
:
:

(4) Ending Arabic number "96" stands for "in terms of 1996 NT dollars (i.e. in real terms)". For example, GDP96 is "real GDP in 1996 NT$".
