1.2 Composition of Retrieval Codes

In Chapter 2, we will list all retrieval codes of INS according to the Table order in the publication.

We hope you may easily find the retrieval codes for the data you need in Chapter 2. However, it might be helpful if you are familiar with how we construct these retrieval codes. Generally speaking, each retrieval code has three parts and is composed as follows:

"Concept Code" + "Institution Code" + @ + "Modifier"

(1) The first part consists of a certain English abbreviation to represent a particular "concept" in the insurance statistics. For example:

PI    --  Premium Income
CL   --  CLaims
NB   --  New Business
BF   --  Business in Force
BP   --  Benefit Paid to policyholders
RPI  --  Reinsurance Premium Income
RCL --  Reinsurance CLaims paid
I      --  Income statement
A    --   Assets
L    --   Liabilities & net worth
IP   --   Investment Portfolios

(2) The second part consists of a certain English abbreviation representing institutions and is placed behind the initial "Concept Code". For example :

NC      --  Non-life insurance Company
DNC   --   Domestic Non-life insurance Companies
FNC   --   Foreign Non-life insurance Companies
COOP --   non-life insurance CO-OPerative society
LI      --   Life Insurance companies
DLI   --    Domestic Life Insurance
FLI    --   Foreign Life Insurance companies
POS   --   POStal simple life insurance
NHI   --   National Health Insurance
G&S  --   Government employees' & School staffs' insurance
LAB  --   LABor insurance

(3) The third part is a "modifier" following an "@" sign.  For example, TOTAL represents "Total", BD represents "Bank Deposit", and INTI represents "Interest Income", etc. Hence, a complete retrieval code will be like:

ALI@TOTAL  :  ASSETS OF LIFE INSURANCE - TOTAL ASSETS
ADLI@TOTAL :  ASSETS OF DOMESTIC LIFE INSURANCE CO. - TOTAL ASSETS
IPLI@BD : INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS OF LIFE INSURANCE - BANK DEPOSITS
ILI@INTI : INCOME STATEMENT OF LIFE INSURANCE - INTEREST INCOME

(4) For some of the statistics, we must differentiate between "number of cases" and "amount of money". In these cases, "N" (representing "number") or "$" (representing "amount") is placed between the "institution code" and "@". For instance,

NBLIN@LIFE: NEW BUSINESS OF LIFE INSURANCE (NO.) - INDIVIDUAL INSURANCE - LIFE
NBLI$@LIFE: NEW BUSINESS OF LIFE INSURANCE (AMOUNT) - INDIVIDUAL INSURANCE - LIFE

, etc.
