1.2 Composition of Retrieval Codes

In Chapter 2, we will list all retrieval codes of IFS according to the Table order in the publication.

We hope you may easily find the retrieval codes for the data you need in Chapter 2. However, it might be helpful if you are familiar with how we construct these retrieval codes. Generally speaking, we follow the following principles:

(1) All retrieval codes begin with an initial English letter "L".

(2) Following the initial "L" letter, we then use the "concept code" that appears in the IMF IFS publication. For example, the concept code for "Discount Rate (End of Period)" is "60", then the retrieval code for Discount Rate (End of Period) is "L60"; the concept code for "Wholesale Prices" is "63", and the retrieval code for Wholesale Prices is "L63".

(3) Some of the concept codes contain single period sign "." or double period sign "..". We use a single "&" sign to represent either single period sign or double period sign. For example, the concept code for "Cash in the Postal Savings System" is "40a.g", the retrieval code is "L40A&G"; the concept code for Time and Savings Deposits in the Postal Savings System" is "45..g", and the retrieval code is "L45&G".
