1.2 Composition of Retrieval Codes

In Chapter 2, we will list all retrieval codes of FSM according to the Table order in the publication.

We hope you may easily find the retrieval codes for the data you need in Chapter 2. However, it might be helpful if you are familiar with how we construct these retrieval codes. Generally speaking, we follow the following principles:

(1) We use English abbreviations to represent some of the major concepts frequently used in financial statistics. These abbreviations serve as the beginning letters of our retrieval codes. For example:

A -- Assets.
L -- Liabilities.
D -- Deposits.
L&D -- Loans & Discounts.
RM -- Interest Rate (i.e. Rate of Money).
RX -- Exchange Rate (i.e. Rate of Exchange).
VX -- Volume of Exchange Trading.
CPI -- Consumer Price Index.
WPI -- Wholesale Price Index.
BA -- Bankers' Acceptances.
CP -- Commercial Paper.
TB -- Treasury Bills.
NCD -- Negotiable Certificates of Deposit.
CB -- Corporate Bonds.
GB -- Government Bonds.

(2) Following the beginning letters, we often use a "modifier" to represent some financial institution. These modifiers as follows:

CBC -- Central Bank of China.
DMB -- Deposit Money Banks.
DB -- Domestic Banks.
FB -- Local Branches of Foreign Banks.
MBB -- Medium Business Banks.
CCA -- Credit Cooperative Associations.
FFA -- Credit Departments of Farmers' and Fishermen's Association.
MI -- Monetary Institutions.
OFI -- Other Financial Institutions.
ITC -- Investment and Trust Companies.
PSS -- Postal Savings System.
LIC -- Life Insurance Companies.

(3) A complete retrieval code usually consists of the above two kinds of abbreviations plus some commonly-used English letters.
